Should I get a tattoo?

This comment was given by a Christian Tatoo bearer:

I thought about it and decided if a tattoo gives even one opportunity to give a testimony about My Lord Christ Jesus that plants a seed, which may lead someone to salvation, it‘s worth it. I have read many comments on biblical texts for and against tattooing. All seeming to have valid points but before deciding to get a tattoo read the following. You see it is like the double edged sword the Bible speaks of. Out of my mouth the Word of God flows which is one side of the sword, my tatoos on my body preaching Christ is the other side of the blade. Cool hey?

Rom 3:19-24

In these verses, we see that no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law and through the law we become conscious of sin. But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has come (faith in Christ Jesus). Let us not forget that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

1 Cor 9:20-23

Paul stated that to the Jews he became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law he became like one under the law (though he himself is not under the law), to win those under the law. To those not having the law he became like one not having the law (though he is not free from God's law but is under Christ's law), so as to win those not having the law. He and we must become all things to all men so that by all possible means we might save some.

Here we see that Paul knows that he is not under the law but is willing to become like them, not one of them. Paul and us are not free from God's law but under Christ's law.

At this point, I will say no born-again disciple of Christ Jesus should ever think about a tattoo that represents evil.

So let me ask what is in your heart and why do you want a tattoo?

What makes a person an unclean person?

Matt 15:1-20 Remember when Jesus was asked. Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don't wash their hands before they eat!" Read what Jesus replied. Peter asked Jesus to explain the parable. He said "Are you still so dull?" Jesus asked them. "Don't you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man 'unclean.' For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20 These are what make a man 'unclean'; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him 'unclean.'"

Rom 7:18

18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. John 3:6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.

I know any tattoo I put on my flesh will perish with my flesh but what it represents is no different then the words speak. If the tattoo represents evil the message it sends is evil if the tattoo represents good then the message is good.

Eph 2:14-18

14 For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, 15 by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, 16 and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. 17 He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. 18 For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.

Matt 7:21-23

21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

What is in your heart? Why do you do the things you do? Why do you say the things you say? What is the reason you want a tattoo?  Everything we do as Christians must be done through love, helping others to the knowledge of salvation. Showing how to choose faith in Christ Jesus and repentance from sinning as a way of life always desiring the daily blessings from our Lord.

I pray that none of us ever become part of Matt 7:21-23.

Greetings Bro
